The report, published annually by Save the Sound, uses 3-year data to highlight recent changes in water quality along Long Island Sound beaches in both Connecticut and New York.

Walnut Beach showed tremendous improvement over last year’s report, improving from a C- in 2021 to A+ in 2022.  Collections taken during both wet and dry weather conditions were reflected in this improvement.

Meanwhile, water quality at neighboring Silver Sands State Park stumbled slightly, dropping from B+ in 2021 to B- in 2022.  Both wet and dry conditions contributed to this score, but samples were particularly poor during the wettest summer weather.

These results are based on state-mandated water quality testing by local municipalities, and the results are influenced by a variety of environmental factors.  To learn more about what impacts our water quality, and what we can all do to help, download a copy of this year’s free report from Save the Sound…
